Genetic engineering should be used as one of the tools for uplift
Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik who is one of the members of the Atomic Energy Commission for Bio-Sciences in Pakistan while addressing scientists said biotechnology was one of the tools that the nation should use to fight poverty and hunger. He warned against the dangers of adopting methods never used before. Dr Kauser said that there were many measures that the government and other federal authorities need to take to develop genetically modified technologies such as setting up an expert committee on bio-safety, developing a voluntary code of conduct for GM organism producers etc. Even though all these needs have been communicated to federal authorities, there has been no action on these.
