Pakistan prepares biosafety rules with GM crops in view
The government of Pakistan has notified rules of biosafety applicable to GMO crops. Under the rules, unless a license is obtained from Federal Agency, no person can trade, sell, purchase, export or import living modified organisms. Major Tahir Iqbal, Minister for Environment, opined that the rules will help in the improvement of crops by providing protection against diseases and pests. He has also termed the issuance of rules as a big achievement and hoped that a new era of progress will usher in the area of agriculture.
