Sowing of BT cotton stressed
Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association vice-chairman
Muhammad Shafiq said the government should allow
cultivation of BT cotton. He said that this year
India was expecting more than 20 million cotton
bales first time in its history due to cultivation
of BT cotton. |

Bio-diesel good source of alternative energy
Michael Hall, Director Liquid Gold LLC, USA, while
talking to (LCCI) Mubasher Sheikh here on Friday
said bio-diesel was obtained from rapeseed, soybean
mustard, palm oil, waste vegetable oil, animal
fats and sewage. He added that bio-diesel contains
no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level
with mineral diesel to create bio-diesel. It is
also environment-friendly source of energy |

Growers to get seeds of new cotton varieties
New cotton crop varieties having comparatively
better resistance against leaf curl virus will
be approved shortly and their seed will be made
available to the growers through Punjab Seed Corporation.
Fayyaz Bashir, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab,
disclosed while chairing meeting of cotton crop
Management Group at Central Cotton Research Institute,
Multan. He said complete ban on cultivation of
off-season cotton will be imposed along with eradication
of alternate host weeds for management of American

Growers urge agri scientists to find remedy for
cotton virus
The cotton growers have asked the agricultural
scientists to find a cure to the Cotton Leaf Curl
Virus (CLCV) and mealy bug, as these have severely
damaged the crop in Multan, Vehari and Khanewal
this year. |

Local cotton growers oppose import from India
The traders on Monday said that the shipment from
the road-route was fast and could be a cheaper
option for spinners. Although it would hurt the
interest of local growers and farmers cultivating
cotton in hope of having good rates of their produce,
they added. A senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani said
that several growing areas have already been hit
by pest-attack and it might cause the supply of
